Studies have shown cannabis and sex can both stimulate our brain’s pleasure centers. But is there a deeper connection between cannabis and sex?
The Journal of Sexual Medicine recently published an arousing study suggesting daily cannabis users had about 20% more sex than those who never used. The study was based on the survey results of approximately 50,000 people from 2002 and 2015.
Dr. Michael Eisenberg, the senior author on the study and a urologist at Stanford University Medical Center, said “over the course of a year, they’re having sex maybe 20 more times.” Eisenberg also stated that “in pretty much every group we studied, this pattern persisted.”
Before you put on Marvin Gaye, dim the lights, and reach for a joint, the cause and effect isn’t cut and dry. It’s not totally clear if marijuana users have more sex because they smoke or if those who have more sex also enjoy cannabis.
